Prevent

The Government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, and these values were reiterated in 2014. As part of The Poulner Infant School and Nursery on-going safeguarding and child protection duties we are fully behind the government Prevent Strategy. We build pupils’ resilience to radicalisation by promoting British Values. We place importance on Prevent awareness training to equip staff to identify children who are at risk of being drawn into terrorism and to challenge extremist ideas. All our staff have received training on what Prevent is about and how to deal with any issues they may see inside or outside of school.

What is prevent?

In the UK, Prevent is a government counter-terrorism strategy. Its goal is to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting radical groups. Public groups like schools, hospitals, and local councils must follow legal duties to spot and support vulnerable people early. [1, 2]
