Pastoral Support

At Poulner Infant School and Nursery, we know that children learn best when they feel safe, happy, understood and that they belong. Our pastoral support is an important part of our inclusive approach and is designed to support children's emotional wellbeing, relationships and readiness to learn.

We recognise that every child is different and that, at times, children and families may need a little extra support. Our caring and experienced staff work closely with children and parents to understand individual needs and provide the right support at the right time. This may include ELSA support, emotional literacy work, Zones of Regulation, sensory and movement activities, friendship and social skills support, nurture-based approaches and individual check-ins with trusted adults.

We are fortunate to have dedicated therapeutic spaces, including The Nest and The Woodland Room, where children can access calm, nurturing and sensory support when needed. We also work closely with families and, where appropriate, other professionals and services to ensure children receive joined-up support.

Pastoral care at Poulner is not something that only happens when a child is experiencing difficulties. It is woven through everyday school life, from the relationships children build with trusted adults to our focus on wellbeing, belonging and positive relationships.

Our aim is for every child to feel known, valued, listened to and supported to thrive.
